Which kind of birth control you choose depends greatly on the type of protection you want, what side affects you are willing to gamble with and the amount of convenience you desire. Ovral, an oral contraceptive, is a combination of Ethinyl estradiol and norgestrel, which prevent ovulation. No ovulation ultimately means there will be no pregnancy. The hormones also thicken cervical mucus which makes it difficult for sperm to reach a released egg.
Ovral birth control pills, like most forms of birth control, have significant, non-serious side effects and associated with it. However, for most people, the side effects are minimal and more of a nuisance than anything serious. If you find that you cannot tolerate any type of birth control, make sure you talk to your doctor. The most common side effects of ovral and ovral 21 are nausea, vomiting, bloating and water retention, breast tenderness and or swelling, freckles and darkening of the facial skin, excess hair growth, and weight gain, vaginal itching, decreased sex drive, fatigue, nervousness and dizziness. The more serious risks associated with ovral are sudden numbness and weakness, sudden severe headaches associated with loss of balance and/or vision and speech problems, swelling of the legs and ankles, a breast lump, pain in the chest with or without nausea or sweating, stomach pain, fever, loss of appetite, jaundice, depression, dark urine and clay colored stools. If you experience any of these side effects with ovral tablets talk to your doctor right away.
Ovral should not be taken by anyone that is pregnant, has a history of stroke or blood clots, circulation problems, a hormone-related cancer, abnormal vaginal bleeding, liver disease, severe high blood pressure or migraine headaches, a heart valve disorder or history of jaundice. Furthermore, you should make sure it is ok to take ovral if you have high blood pressure, high cholesterol, a history of depression, gallbladder disease, diabetes, seizures, and irregular menstrual periods, history of fibrocystic lumps or abnormal mammograms, are taking antibiotics, acetaminophen, St. johns wort, anti-seizure or HIV medications.
If the cost of birth control pills is a problem for you, you may qualify for discounts. Talk to your doctor about how you can order cheap or low price ovral. Your doctor may be able to send you with some samples as well. Most doctors will work with you to make sure you get the birth control you need, no matter the cost.
