Lorazepam

If you or someone you love has been diagnosed with severe depression or anxiety disorder, a prescription drug is probably inevitable. There are many variations of drugs to treat depression disorders; however one group in particular, benzodiazepines, are probably the second most commonly prescribed. If you have heard of Ativan, otherwise known as Lorazepam, Xanax, or Valium, you are familiar with this type of drug. All of the drugs in this group are very similar; however we will focus on lorazepam use in this article.

So, what is Lorazepam? It is one of the most commonly prescribed meds in the group, and affects the chemicals in the brain that become unbalanced and cause anxiety and depression. Like many of these types of drugs, it is not available without a prescription, can definitely be habit-forming and should be used only under the supervision of your family doctor. If you are tempted to buy Lorazepam over the Internet, or from sources outside of the United States, don’t. Many contain the antipsychotic drug Haldol which can be extremely dangerous!

What To Expect

Everyone wants to know what side effects they can expect from lorazepam, and other medications like it. Unfortunately, no one person is alike and neither are the side effects. With proper lorazepam use, you can be sure not to worry about one of the most worrisome side effects, lorazepam overdose!

Contrary to what some people say, there is no documentation that will attest to the fact that there are good and bad lorazepam. There are oral and parenteral only versions, as well as lorazepam intensol. However they all do the same thing, they are just administered differently.

The most common reported side effects are light-headedness, dizziness, fatigue, blurred vision, insomnia, muscle weakness, loss of muscle control and coordination, forgetfulness, concentration problems, nausea, diarrhea, constipation, loss or increase in appetite and skin problems. Other side effects may occur, but these are the most common. However, if you experience some more serious side effects such as hostility, hallucinations, hyperactivity, fainting or thoughts of suicide, call your doctor immediately! You may be familiar with suicides related to medications such as Paxil or Zoloft. Unfortunately, these tendencies can occur just as easily in patients taking lorazepam than Zoloft or Paxil. All of these drugs mess with brain chemicals, making the outcome of its use unpredictable. As with all drugs, before starting lorazepam treatment, be sure to tell your doctor about any medications, herbal treatments or vitamins you are taking, as some can have potentially harmful effects when taken in combination with the drug.
