Differin

Differin is a topical (applied directly to the skin) anti-acne medication. It is chemically similar to Vitamin A and aids the skin in renewing itself quickly. This helps reduce the number of pimples and blackheads that are able to form. It is important to avoid using the medication on skin which is irritated in any way. This includes skin which is sunburned, dry, chapped, windburned or broken. Differin should also not be used where eczema or injury exists. Use of Differin on irritated or injured skin can aggravate or worsen the condition. Once the skin has healed, application may resume.

Differin Gel

It is not known whether Differin can harm fetuses or if it passes into breastmilk. If pregnant or breastfeeding, it is important to discuss the medication with your doctor before using. Differin should be applied according to doctor’s orders. The most common schedule of application is once daily at bedtime. If a dose is missed, apply as soon as possible afterwards. Before applying the medication, wash and dry your hands. Apply the ointment only to a clean and dry surface. After application, do not cover or bandage the treated area as this can cause the medication to be too heavily absorbed - resulting in a reddening or irritation of the skin. While applying the medication, avoid any contact with the eyes, inside of the nose and mouth, lips or any other areas where skin is broken. If you happen to touch Differin where your skin is broken, rinse it with water thoroughly.

Differin Gel Scares

While under treatment with Differin, it is important to avoid prolonged exposure to sunlight. The skin will be especially sensitive and burn easily. Also avoid using any other topical products at the same time. Treat your skin carefully between applications. Use gentle cleansers and minimal perfumes or cosmetics on the affected areas.

Serious side effects of Differin are rare. Watch for signs of allergic reaction including shortness of breath, swelling of the lips, face or tongue, and hives. If these occur, discontinue use and contact your doctor immediately. Sensations of burning, warmth, stinging, tingling, redness, peeling, dryness and irritation are common when using Differin. These side effects usually decrease after the first few weeks of treatment. If, however, skin becomes darker or lighter, stop treatment and notify your doctor.
